2008 Shiraz (6 bottles)

2008 Shiraz (6 bottles)

The 2008 The One Hundred Shiraz displays the great ripening conditions of the vintage. It has a rich mouthfeel with dark berries and mocha from the nose really delivering through the palate. There is a hint of spice that adds complexity, along with beautiful toasty oak giving structure and supporting the incredible fruit length.

As always, the objective in making this wine was to achieve ‘balance’.

Oak treatment was a little more complex this year. After 6 months in 100% new French oak, half of the blend was then transferred to the same 500L oak puncheons that held the 2007 The One Hundred Adelaide Hills Shiraz, following the bottling of that wine in September 2008.

Variety:  100% Shiraz from A1 and A2-grade parcels.

Region:  67% McLaren Vale and 33% Langhorne Creek

Ferment:  Cold soak on skins, followed by warm ferment in open top, small batch fermenters with regular hand plunging and pumping-over of cap.

Oak:  18 months in oak, initially, 100% new 300L Radoux French oak (barriques) for 6 months and then half of the wine was transferred to the 1 yr old 500L puncheons that had been emptied after bottling of our 2007 Shiraz, with the remainder staying in the new barriques. The combination of the 2 different types of barrels has brought an extra layer of complexity to this wine. A richer style of wine than the 2007 but still maintaining the elegance and balance of The One Hundred without becoming too extracted or over-oaked.
