2010 Shiraz (6 bottles)
South Australian shiraz had a cracking year in 2010, and nowhere more so than McLaren Vale. While the vintage had its share of heat issues, the old-vine shiraz blocks that we select from are on the hills bordering McLaren Vale so they have the benefit of altitude, and the tempering influence of the sea just a few kilometres away, keeping freshness and purity in the fruit.
These ideal growing conditions in 2010 have led to a shiraz that has pure rich fruit and long fine tannins, without being overly heavy. We don’t take any credit though as nature really made the 2010 vintage and our job was to do as little as possible with it and get it into barrel - with fruit this good, that is all you should do.
Once again, the fruit we select from was primarily bought by Penfolds, so we are in good company with our 2010 wine. With 2010 Penfolds St Henri RRP $95 we are excited to offer the 2010 The One Hundred McLaren Vale Shiraz for $30 per bottle.
We have kept the wine in cellar for a few years before releasing to ensure you can crack it open immediately. As always, a good decant will open the wine up nicely and if you can tuck any bottles away in ideal storage conditions then you should be rewarded for a further 5-10 years.
